April 17
Eddie Cochran’s 1960 tour of England ended at the Hackney Empire, this was to be his final live performance. Tragically the taxi carrying Cochran, his girlfriend Sharon Sheely, and fellow American Rock Star Gene Vincent, blew a tyre while on its way to London Airport. The car swerved off the road and slammed into a lamp post.

Early 1960
‘Les Cousins’ housed in the basement of 49 Greek Street, Soho was one of the big names in folk music clubs in London and was one of the few clubs to stay open all night. Regular players include, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Ralph McTell, Paul Simon, John Martyn, Nick Drake, Al Stewarft and Roy Harper.
