Sixties work of Nigel Waymouth Exhibition
A major exhibition of the sixties work of one of our very own London 60s Week Trustees, Nigel Waymouth: including artworks from Hapshash & the Coloured Coat; Granny Takes a Trip; personal photographs; and the ephemera which defined ’60s culture.
Hapshash, one of the most famous British design collectives of the 20th Century, are best known for their psychedelic posters created for the biggest underground music venue of its time, the legendary UFO Club. The club made for a memorable venue for performances by Pink Floyd, Soft Machine, Jeff Beck, The Move and The Incredible String Band, heroes who all truly embraced the free-spirited culture which has become so indelibly linked with the ’60s – an ethos visually manifest in the Hapshash posters, which themselves have become seminal works in the pantheon of poster art.

Beat Convention 2011
It marks the 50th anniversary since Beat music started in the UK in the different cities like London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool (most notably) and even in Holland with Nederbeat. The year where beat music actually started is arguable either 1960, 1961 or 1962 but this was close enough.
The Beat Convention will be held at Hornsey Parish Hall near Crouch End and acts that have already been confirmed are The Roves, but acts still to be confirmed are The Hollers or The Fore who recently played there famous IPO shows in London and Liverpool. A DJ set from Soho Sound will also be going on playing British Beat classics from Tony Sheridan to Rory Storm to Gerry & The Pacemakers to The Hollies to Helen Shapiro and of course The Beatles.
Tickets: £1 Entry: £2.50

Save the 100 Club
Show your support
London 60s Week has pledged its full support to save the 100 Club.
The 100 Club in the 60s had such greats as The YardBirds, The Pretty Things, The Kinks, The Who, The Animals, Georgie Fame, Eric Clapton, Spencer Davis & Rod Stewart to name but a few UK musicians who started their careers playing this iconic London music venue. As more and more of London’s music heritage is erased by commercial forces London 60s Weeks is asking its supporters to get involved and pledge £10 to save London’s musical history so the next generation has somewhere to showcase their talent.
Please follow this link and give your support.
